What's happening in Tamil Nadu politics: Edappadi's jump and Stalin's fever?

The 2026 state assembly election festival is already in full swing. The AIADMK, Tamil Nadu's main opposition party, has launched its campaign "Let's reclaim Tamil Nadu, let's protect the people," with Edappadi K. Palaniswami leading the charge. Meanwhile, the DMK alliance has begun its door-to-door campaign under the slogan "Tamil Nadu." Having exited the NDA coalition during the 2024 parliamentary elections, the AIADMK has now joined the NDA alliance for the 2026 state assembly elections. Both parties have commenced their campaign journeys.

Edappadi's campaign is being widely discussed among the people. Unlike previous attempts, he is conducting an energetic campaign with the goal of bringing his party to power this time. This approach has been well-received by the public.

Amid this, DMK leader Stalin has been admitted to the hospital due to health concerns following the profound impact of his elder brother, Thiru M.K. Muthu's passing. Udhayanidhi Stalin has assured that the Chief Minister will recover soon and resume public service. Political analysts note that while both parties have governed Tamil Nadu for 50 years, predicting the winner of the upcoming assembly elections remains uncertain. It is also being discussed in political circles that the Chief Minister will soon meet the public directly and provide strong responses to the opposition leader's questions, marking the beginning of DMK's election strategy.
